Privacy policy

Wisp is a Mac app that answers questions about the part of your screen you select. It’s built to collect as little as possible.
What the app sends, and to whom
- The region you select, only when you capture it. Wisp sends the image of the area you dragged over, plus the text it recognized on your Mac, to the AI provider you chose in Settings:
- Google (Gemini), under Google’s terms
- OpenAI, under OpenAI’s terms
- nobody, if you use Ollama or LM Studio, which run on your own Mac
- Your license key. It goes to Gumroad, our store, about once a day to check that your license is active.
- Update checks. Wisp checks for new versions about once a day by downloading a small update file from GitHub.
What the app doesn’t do
- It doesn’t record your screen continuously or look at anything you didn’t select.
- It has no Wisp servers, analytics, ads or tracking.
- It doesn’t save your captures or answers to disk. The session list lives in memory and clears when you quit.
What stays on your Mac
- Your settings and license status, in the app’s preferences.
- Your AI keys, in the macOS Keychain.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Gumroad, which processes payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see your card.
This website
This site has no analytics and sets no cookies of its own. To show the page it loads fonts from Google Fonts, the 3D graphics library from jsDelivr, and Gumroad’s checkout script, so those services receive the usual request details, such as your IP address. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages.
